The Dramatic Uses of Intoxication in Shakespeares Play...

‘The Tempest is thought to be Shakespeares last play, written in approximately 1611. ‘The Tempest belongs to the Romance Genre. Generally, the following features are found in a Romance: - a trial and test, a dynastic marriage, magic and the supernatural. ‘The Tempest includes the above features, in at least one of the three main plots. These plots are the romance between Ferdinand and Miranda; the comedy of Caliban, Stephano and Trinculo and finally, the tragedy planned by Antonio and Sebastian. All three plots, however, follow a strict structure in the form of a shipwreck, a meeting, a temptation/test, a reward/ punishment and lastly the reconciliation. In each of these plots, there is a recurrent motif, which is intoxication.†¦show more content†¦In reply to the declaration of his feelings, Miranda offers him, her most valuable possession ‘The jewel in my dower. In Shakespearean times, this was not a decision to make lightly and shows the extent of trust in Ferdinand despite his talking of other women. The intoxication has made her blind to any wrongs which could happen or how she could be used as well as the disappointment her father may have. Shakespeare, during lines 60 to 67 use some terms in an unusual pattern as he refers to a ‘prince which rises in station to a ‘King but then falls to ‘wooden slavery, ‘service and his becoming a ‘slave. This is unusual as in History, it has been considered as preposterous for a King to renounce his title and lower himself as the Bible indicates that Kings and Queens were Gods chosen rulers and in Shakespeares time, religion was more important than it is today. So the thought of a ‘king lowering himself to such labours represents the control the intoxication has over even a Kings protection of his reputation. Prospero realises during this scene that the result of the couples declarations could be unpleasant and declares that ‘Heaven rain grace/ On that which breeds ‘em! for Prosperos sights of a

Single Displacement or Substitution Reaction

A single displacement reaction or substitution reaction is a common and important type of chemical reaction. A substitution or single displacement reaction is characterized by one element being displaced from a compound by another element.A BC → AC B A single displacement reaction is a specific type of oxidation-reduction reaction. An element or ion is replaced by another in a compound. Single Displacement Reaction Examples An example of a substitution reaction occurs when zinc combines with hydrochloric acid. The zinc replaces the hydrogen:Zn 2 HCl → ZnCl2 H2 Here is another example of a single displacement reaction: 3 AgNO3 (aq) Al (s) → Al(NO3)3 (aq) 3 Ag (s) How To Recognize a Substitution Reaction You can recognize this type of reaction by looking for a trade between one cation or anion in a compound with a pure substance in the reactants side of the equation, forming a new compound in the products side of the reaction. If, however, two compounds appear to trade partners, then youre looking at a double displacement reaction rather than a single displacement.

Summary Of An Amputee And A Homeless By Brian Lloyd...

In contrary to the one the public knows him for now (i.e. an amputee and a homeless), Brian Lloyd Sinclair, according to his sister Esther, was a boy who is always well-groomed, aspires to be a lawyer, loves to help his mother cook and wash the kitchen floors, and explores the beach with his close-knit cousins (Carreiro, 2014). Here, it is clear to see how family remains significant and coextensive with the lives and values of the First Nations community as it becomes the core of their identity. Hearing these good memories of him, it is hard to imagine how this child with a loving personality full of hopes and dreams turned into a man in his iconic photograph who is a poignant homeless amputee and a substance abuser. Unfortunately, all these blissful events did not last long. Life went on and some bad things happened that really destroyed him as a person. First, is when his parents got separated when he was about 12-13 years old; His mom was a residential school survivor and her copi ng mechanism was unfortunately being â€Å"drank to excess† (Carreiro, 2014). He was then placed into foster care while his father tried to rebuild a life for them in Winnipeg and was eventually sent to a CFS-run semi-wilderness group home for troubled Aboriginal teens when he was 14. Some people may be confused thinking that he let himself wait for 34 hours without acting out or aggressively confronting the HSC staffs. Karl Gompf, his camp instructor back in 1977, said that what has happened to him

The way in which data Is collected Is The third step to the intelligence process is the actual processing of intelligence received, but it is very important to note if even one name is misspelled the intelligence may have no use at all. The processing of information is broken down into four separate activities (Carter 64).The first step is to test the reliability of the intelligence gathered and this include verifying that it has come from an accurate resource and isnt Just a myth. The second step is testing the validity of the information which figures if the information is accurate and useful, however it is important to note that you must have competing information in order to determine the use of the intelligence gathered. If you fail to have competing information then you must start the whole process over again. The way in which this methodology could be implemented is to make sure the analyst in question is qualified and at least has two sources of intelligence to process. The next activity is to test the method in which the n which the information was collected, meaning to make sure it was collected lawfully and accurately. The last activity within the processing step is to disconnection which is to make sure no other law enforcement agency is making the same inquiry as you are.If so, then it is useful to note that your intelligence can often be passed onto the other agency involved (67). The heart of the intelligence process is the fourth step which is t he analysis of the intelligence gathered. The intelligence is to be cross examined with numerical and qualitative data and this is to point out any indicators or connections with other intelligence involving the same group or person. The result is the intelligence product which is a summary of all the intelligence gathered along with any conclusions and a forecast of what is to come from the criminal or organization (68). The fifth and sixth steps are dissemination and reevaluation. Dissemination involves getting the right information to the right hands. Law enforcement officials can better implement this by creating a system in which all levels of law enforcement can use to make any intelligence gathered more useful to all sections of law enforcement (69).
